GAMING

I like games of all sorts, from video games like Limbo, Bio Shock, Halo, Metal Gear Solid and Sleeping Dogs, to name but a few, right through to board games. It does not matter what form the game takes as long as it is thoroughly entertaining. I have to admit that I have a huge weakness for puzzle-solving, which brings me to Cyan Worlds’ Riven, which I find artistically stunning. It is the first game that made me wish I could step inside it. The environments are farfetched and exotic yet they still resonate with the audience. Despite the variety of locations, there is a great design unity and the rendering is so believable that artists have been known to use screen shots to study lighting. Everything has been thought out just like a good book and all the visuals are in the service of the game play and narrative.

TECHNIQUE

I work mainly with a Cintiq and Photoshop but I often incorporate traditional mediums such as watercolour and gouache to enhance my digital work. When possible I develop projects from the macro to the micro, starting with large-scale maps and progressing towards smaller and smaller details, all the while striving to maintain a rich and dynamic design aesthetic throughout.

HOBBIES

When I am not working I am either travelling or enjoying sports. I have a great desire to continue exploring new horizons and cultures and I currently have my heart set on visiting New Caledonia. As for sports, I am completely addicted to biking, mountain biking, surfing and windsurfing.

GOALS

My plan is to continue challenging myself artistically with the long-term goal of writing and directing my own animated films.

WELCOME TO MY ONLINE PORTFOLIO!

I am a Franco-Canadian concept artist and illustrator. I grew up spending all my summers in a remote hillside village in France and all my winters in bustling Vancouver. Over the course of seven years I studied illustration, graphic design, film and animation in France, Canada, and England and now I work in film, video games and animation, allowing me to continue nourishing my insatiable passion for visual storytelling and gaming.

VISUAL STORYTELLING

When I read a story or listen to a proposed project, the words immediately conjure up images in my mind and I find it immensely fulfilling to be able to share these projections with others. I strive to create striking environments and utterly believable characters that play on the audience’s curiosity to entice them into the story. My ultimate aim is to make you, the onlooker, travel out beyond the page or the screen, even if it is just for a moment.

These are the writers and visual storytellers who have the greatest influence on me: Hergé, Hayao Miyazaki, Saint-Exupéry, Gerald Durrell, Enid Blyton, Roald Dahl, Mary Norton, Daniel Defoe, Neil Gaiman, and Sylvain Chomet, the creator of the Triplettes of Belleville.
